Driving Traffic to Your Website from Pinterest
Pinterest can be a visitor referral machine for your website, and you can drive more traffic to your site by making your content as pinnable as possible. Here are some ways to actively drive traffic to your site:
1.Make your content visually engaging. In order for your web pages and blog posts to get pinned on Pinterest (and reap the benefits of being passed around on the site), your posts must include clear, appealing images. If you spend some time on the Pinterest site, you’ll see what types of photos get repinned consistently; the pictures are interesting and compelling.
To start getting traffic (and business) from Pinterest, you need to add images to every blog post, landing page, and sales page on your website—no excuses!
2.Use photo badges. A photo badge is an interesting image that has your blog post title superimposed on it. Check Figure 14.1 on page 186 for an example of a photo badge.
Use Photoshop or free online photo editing tools like PicMonkey (picmonkey.com) to create beautiful photo badges.
Once your photo badge is published with your blog post, make sure you pin it on one of your boards. You can use your badges on Facebook and Twitter, too!
3.Make sure you’ve got a Pin It button on every page of your website or blog. Make it easy for your readers to share your content on Pinterest. Get a free Pin It button for your site by going to the Pinterest “Goodies” page: pinterest.com/about/goodies.
4.Figure out your Pinterest “peak times.” You want to think strategically about timing on Pinterest, and maximize your time in the Pinterest spotlight by pinning your images when the greatest number of people will see them.
For most niches, that means you want to pin between 6 A.M. and 6 P.M. EST, but that’s just a rule of thumb. The smart strategy is to look at the traffic stats for your own website to see when you consistently get the most traffic from Pinterest—then plan to pin during those times.
5.Create tutorials and how-to content on your site. Pinterest users love how-to content, so create tutorials and other educational content for your site, then pin that content to Pinterest.
6.Use a clear call to action. Featuring a “call to action” like “click here,” “comment below,” or “repin this,” increases the engagement (repins, comments, likes) of a pin by 80 percent. So include those calls to action in your pins to drive traffic to your blog posts or website!
